Meet Kelly — a Body Boost regular who never misses a Monday night, and shows up to Book Club with the same energy and a big smile. We’re so glad she’s part of our community!
- Tell us about your family!
- My spouse Peter and I met as teachers right after college. We have 3 kids, two in pre-K and one in elementary. They're at such fun ages right now, filled with wonder and imagination (and all the big feelings).
- Current/previous career?
- I work in a college women's center as an advocate for survivors of gender-based violence. I love that my work allows me to be part of a feminist community, support survivors, and be constantly learning.
- What does motherhood mean to you?
- Lately, motherhood has been about stepping back and watching the world through my kids' eyes, trying to let go of some control and encourage them to grow into themselves.
- Favorite local spot?
- Scoville Park and the Oak Park Public Library are on our regular rotation. I love relaxing while the kids play in the library, reading together, or having a picnic during the summer concert series or movies in the park.
- How did you find Fit4Mom?
- I started Fit4Mom when I was pregnant with my third as things were starting to open up after the pandemic. I think I found it through social media.
- What's the best part of Fit4Mom?
- I love getting to know families from the local community. It's always great to run into another F4M mom when we're out and about, or find out there's F4M families in an activity we're doing with the kids. Bookclub has also been a nice way to read interesting books and connect with moms outside of class.
- Favorite class/exercise?
- Body Boost is a can't-miss class for me! It's a full-body workout, it's super fun, and Melissa picks great music every time. It’s the best way to start my week.
- Proudest moment?
- Last summer, we roadtripped and took our kids camping and hiking in Utah and New Mexico, a trip that I used to take with my family when I was a kid. I am proud of the ways we've encouraged our kids to love the outdoors and the experiences we've been able to give them (and the fact that we successfully tent camped with 3 littles and made it home in one piece!).
- What is something that would surprise us?
- I lived in an old church rectory in Cicero with a group of recent grads after college.
