MEET OUR MOM OF THE MONTH: Kaijah Howard

  • Tell us about your family!
  • I've lived in Chicago with my husband for the past 11 years. We moved here while engaged and planned our wedding while I was in my first semester of the MPH program at UIC. Our kiddos, Evelyn (7) and Mattias (3.75) complete our little family in the Austin (Chicago) neighborhood.
  • Current/previous career?
  • After being between jobs most of the year, I'm shifting from a support role in recruiting to general human resources. I'm excited to jump into all things workplace benefits and HR operations!
  • What does motherhood mean to you?
  • Motherhood means growing and expanding yourself in unexpected ways. I'm different than I was before having kids, but I also shifted when we went from one to two. Loving and accepting those shifts is important to me because I want my kids to do the same for themselves.
  • Favorite local spot?
  • We're big fans of Lake Street Cinemas! Can't beat a reclining seat with a warmer. We also enjoy the holiday screenings.
  • How did you find Fit4Mom?
  • When my daughter was an infant, I attended an open house from Fit4Mom Chicago when we still lived in Irving Park but didn't join. Once my son was born, I realized the studio-based, reformer Pilates schedule I had a few years ago couldn't work for my family & work schedules. I searched for Fit4Mom again and found Fit4Mom OPRF! I signed up for a free trial class for an early-ish Sunday morning and have attended about 70 classes in the year since then!
  • What's the best part of Fit4Mom?
  • Fit4Mom is more than simply workout classes. There's an engaging community and it's not marketing fluff, it's genuine and so impactful.
  • Favorite class/exercise?
  • Body Ignite! I had no clue when I trialed Allison's class she was known as one of the toughest instructors but I absolutely love starting my Sunday mornings in her class. It's also great virtually and at the treehouse!
  • Proudest moment?
  • One of my proudest recent moments was at ZooLights, another mom commented, unprovoked, that Evelyn is "a great big sister" after a ride on the kids train. Whenever someone tells us their child speaks fondly about one of our kids to them, I light up! Having little humans to be proud of/for is the best!
  • What is something that would surprise us?
  • About 50% of my wardrobe is thrifted or secondhand. I'm not quite zero waste or necessarily frugal, but I do love a good, quality bargain!
  • FIT4MOM Oak Park River Forest offers fitness classes for women in all stages of motherhood, including prenatal, stroller & moms only classes. Your first class is free! Click here to try a class.
